mother no more

I called

She spoke

As she spoke
i listen

The words came
like a knife
into my heart

No more
did
she want

No more
could i
have

She didn’t want…..
i was no more her child
not even when i was now a man

She had already lost
whatever mind
she had left

I had left
whatever
mother
i had

For when the
call was….
the phone
clicked
i knew i had
no more

she was
mother no more

  1. Poignant. The loss of a parent is difficult enough, but the process of dementia or Alzheimers is worse because it leaves the shell of the loved one but increasingly less and less of the personality. My heart aches for people who must endure this either as family or the victim.
